Supplications and deeds recited during Ramadan

Ramadan — the month of the Qur'an

Ramadan is the blessed month in which the Qur'an was revealed. In this month every act of worship and every supplication carries multiplied reward. Ramadan's verses and supplications are the peak of a Muslim's spiritual life.

The Qur'an on Ramadan

«The month of Ramaḍān [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the crescent of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.»

(Qur'an, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 185)

The iftar supplication

The most well-known supplication recited when breaking the fast:

"Allahumma laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu — O Allah, for You I fasted and with Your provision I broke my fast."

(Sunan Abi Dawud, hadith no. 2358)

Another authentic iftar supplication

"Dhahaba al-zama'u wabtallat al-'uruqu wa thabata al-ajru inshaAllah — The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened and, God willing, the reward is established."

(Sunan Abi Dawud, hadith no. 2357)

  • Alhamdulillah — All praise is for Allah

The merit of providing iftar
